Seminar on "Political and humanitarian crisis in the DRC".

 

This seminar took place at the Institute of Advanced Study of Pavia. It focused on analysis of armed conflicts in the DRC (from 1960 to 2013) and on the role of international/regional organizations in peacebuiding. 

Conference on humanitarian crisis in DR Congo: An analysis of the complexity of the crisis__January  2013

This conference was organised after the fall of the city of Goma into the hands of M23 rebels and the beginning of talks between DRC's government representatives and the M23 in Uganda. The conference was organised by Chris Kalenge in collaboration with Prof. Calchi Novati (Universty of Pavia), Ms. Alexandra Kinywamaghana (Uganda, student at the Masters program in Cooperation and Development of Pavia, Mr. Tobi Guessler (Switzerland, student at the Masters program in Cooperation and Development of Pavia) with the support of the organisation Friends of Congo (USA).  The following topics were covered during the conference:

  • Profile of diverse armed groups operating in the DRC

  • The causes and consequences of armed conflict in the Great Lakes Region

  • The role of international organizations in conflict resolution

  • The UN Report on armed conflict in the DRC  

 

Launching of Shared Development Consulting Group (SDCG aisbl) project_January 2012

SDCG's mission is to strengthen national ownership of internationally agreed development goals, notably the Millennium Development Goals while promoting South-South and triangular cooperation, and a closer cooperation between young development professionals and actors from developed and developing countries.
